Exhibit Rules

 

The Annual Photographic Contest is open to all members in good standing.  Dues must be paid for the current year. Your digital entries must have been taken in this current year (September 30 through September 30th) unless this is your first entry, than any photo taken by you qualifies.  

Each Member will be allowed up to four (4) total entries. Three maximum in your current skill level category (see below), i.e.: Novice, Intermediate, or Advanced. You may enter two (2) in your level category and two (2) in "Special Class" or three in your basic class and one (1) in the "Special Class."  for a maximum of four (4).  

Cost for entries is $25 for three, $10.00 for additional entry. This covers the cost of matting, and mounting. 

This will use an electronic Judging system. 

To enter you must:     

 a. Electronically "Attach" the digital JPG photos - no larger than 2 mb each - to an e-mail, and submit to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. no later than mid-night Sept 30.

b. In the body of the e-mail must be a description of each photo, e.g.: photographer's name, title of photo, category.

c. Failure to comply will result in your e-mail being returned.

d. At Registration an 8" X 10" (no borders) hard copy of your photo (suitable for displaying) must be submitted along with the completed, signed Entry Form(s) and fees. A different form must be used for each category.

e. At registration the hard copy of photo and the JPG will be matched and verified with the e-mailed photo.

       

After all entries have been submitted via e-mail, System-generated numbers will be assigned to each entry by an Officer handling the display. Each photo will be mounted and matted on a border (selected to enhance all entries). Display cards with your name, camera, and photo title will be constructed and attached for the exhibit. 

During October selected Judges from across the Country will judge all submissions electronically in four (4) areas, each with a "weight" from 1 to 10.

                   Originality/Creativity

                   Technical Quality 

Each Judge will be expected to add personal comments to each submission.                  

All judging values will be electronically tabulated and winners selected. Ribbons will then be awarded for highest accrued total numbers in each category.   

Ribbons will be:

          First Place - Blue Ribbon

          Second Place - Red Ribbon

          Third Place - White Ribbon

          Honorable Mention - Light Blue ribbon       

 

Points will be awarded to the Winners.  Once you reach ten (10) points, you will advance into the next highest skill category.  Once you advance into a higher skill level, you may not return to a lesser level.  

After the winners have been displayed at the annual "Hands Across the Highway" at the Cultural Center and other venues the Board arranges, your photos will be returned to you. 

CATEGORIES:

All categories may use HDR, adjust hue, saturation, contrast, highlights, shadows and may crop. you may use filters or vignettes; or may add to, relocate, replace, or remove any element of the original photo, provided it continues to "Look" natural.

 

Novice Class (Remains as it was)

You may enter any photo taken in the past IF this is your first year competing. After that photos must be taken within the past year.

 

Intermediate Class (Combines current Intermediate Class and Advanced Class )

 

Advanced Class (previously "Masters.")

 

"Special Class"  (Technical Challenge)

Is open to all members. A "theme" will be selected which is to be announced no later than June 1st of the competition. Starting in 2017 "Technical Themes" will be announced in January - The board will offer three options for themes to the November competition.

 

Rules Changes;

1. A "one-time" offer to move to a previous Classification.

2. "Advanced" class members may utilize any post-editing methods to enhance an image as long as the image looks photo realistic, and may submit photos taken within a period of three (3) years.

3. "Novice & Intermediate class photos must have been taken 12 months prior to November show. 

 

Once a member has been assigned a Class, the only way to advance is by an accumulation of ten or more points. Points will be awarded every November competition as follows;

1st Place = 7 points

2nd Place = 5 points

3rd Place = 3 points

Honorable Mention = 2 points. 

 

All members will start at zero points - November 2016.  

Points are accumulated until you advance to a higher Class, then you return to zero.
